Overcoming Failure

We all experience failure. Failure can come in 2 primary varieties: moral failure and expectation failure. Moral failure is sin, but expectation failure is a bit more complex. How do we overcome the feeling of not meeting an expectation, whether one we set for ourselves or one that is set for us by another? Further, why do we set these expectations? What motivates us to do what we do? Perhaps we can learn from Col. 3:22-25 about what should motivate us.
